Neighborhood & Context

The sites of Mercury Court and Parkside are each sandwiched between multiple types of development zones - residential to one side, civic and community uses to another, and commercial and business to yet another. This unique condition creates an opportunity for the redevelopment of Mercury Park to be thought of as an 'in-between' space or a transitional development between dissimilar uses.

Patterson Park

Mercury Court and Parkside both sit directly adjacent to Patterson Park Community Center; Parkside to the west and Mercury Court to the East.

Patterson Park Community Center provides a wide range of fitness, recreational, educational resources for the community including community meeting and gathering spaces. Located within the Patterson Park Community Center is the Myrtle Glanton Lord Public Library. Adjacent to Patterson Park Community Center sits both Bradley Academy – An Art Integrated School and Holloway High School.

Residential

The immediate blocks of the adjacent residential neighborhoods are traditional block design with mostly modest single-family residences – modest both in size and ornament.

Commercial/ Business

Along the southern edge of the Mercury Court property is Mercury Boulevard with several business and commercial establishments. These are mostly single story out parcel and shopping center developments, including Mercury Plaza which sits directly across Mercury Boulevard from a portion of the Mercury Court site.
